BIM is a building model that carries information
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a method and process: you build a building as a collection of meaningful elements, give each element data, and use that data across design, construction and operation.
The decisive word is “Information.” A wall in a BIM model isn’t just a box. It’s a wall with properties — “this is a wall, it’s reinforced concrete, 180 mm thick, with this fire rating.” A door is recognised as a door, a window as a window, and their relationships (“this door is in this wall”) are preserved.

“BIM = Revit.” Revit is one prominent BIM application among many. BIM is not a particular product; it’s the name of an approach and a process.

- Next, try using the information — inspecting/editing properties and issue management.
- As you get comfortable, broaden into quantity checks and model checking (validation).
